Tengizchevroil was formed in 1993 based on an agreement between the Republic of Kazakhstan and Chevron to develop the Tengiz field in the Atyrau region. Throughout its years of operation, TCO has invested in both economic development and human potential while adhering to principles of safety, employee health, and environmental protection. Direct payments to the Republic of Kazakhstan from Tengizchevroil since 1993 have amounted to over 190 billion US dollars. 94.8% of the company's employees are citizens of Kazakhstan.
